The situation of Orphans in
The ever increasing number of orphans is strongly linked to an increase in child labour, which by competing with schooling and exposing children to a range of physical abuses, which are worsening other negative impacts on their health and development.
In Ugandan culture, the expended family and community have traditionally taken care of orphans. But the capacity and resources are now stretched to breaking point, and those providing the necessary care are in many cases already impoverished, often elderly and have often themselves depended financially and physically on the support of the very son or daughter who has died.
With the added burdens of poverty, HIV/AIDS, many communities are facing a crisis situation. BIDCAF is working to help the most vulnerable households meet their food security and nutrition, basic needs, socialeconomic security, orphans and other vulnerable childrens education, improveed shelter, and health needs of the households we support.
